Dark Rituals

Design Statement:

Dark Rituals is a story about author Anne McCauley as she writes her book titled: Dark Rituals of the First Nations People. During her research she is quickly intrigued on the legend of the Wendigo; a story of a man that consumes everything he sees and once loved. Meanwhile, her son Harrison plots her death by means of the very same legend. The story unfolds along with Harrison’s sanity, being consumed by his own greed. By the end of the play it leaves the story of the Wendigo uncertain of being legend or fact.

I accomplished this through my design by distinguishing scenes influenced by the legend, though shifts in color and intensity. I also used elements such as fog and gobos to add to the atmosphere of the supernatural.

Image Culling

At the beginning of our process, we start with finding images. These images give us a visual representation of how the play makes us feel, show the themes, colors we may think of, etc.

These were the agreed-upon photos from the design team and director.

Application

We then take inspiration from our photos and collaborate on color schemes. Textures are also finalized.
