The Foreigner

Design Statement:

The Foreigner follows the story of Charlie Baker, a shy “foreigner” of sorts to the small backwoods family in rural Georgia. Sargent LeSueur, Charlie’s friend, welcomes him into Betty Meeks’ cabin in the woods to take his mind off of his sick wife. Riddled with his own shyness, he is unable to speak. This furthers Charlie into many shenanigans with the other cabin mates, and keeps him privy to some of their scandalous secrets. Charlie overhears two klansmen plotting to overtake the cabin and Charlie himself. With his help, the others are able to thwart their plans and save the day.

I fostered the plot of the show by adding practical elements to the cabin. Various lamps, Christmas lights, and fire place effects were used to emulate the character of the cabin as well as the characters living in it. Fog machines were used for explosions and fires.

Image Culling

At the beginning of our process, we start with finding images. These images give us a visual representation of how the play makes us feel, show the themes, and colors we may think of, etc.

These were the agreed-upon photos from the design team and director.

Application

We then take inspiration from our photos and collaborate on color schemes. Textures are also finalized
